Welcome back to The Dyeing Table!

Every year I submerge myself in indigo, metaphorically and physically. With my indigo work now taking place only once a year, I find myself hyper-fixating on the craft and dyeing many, many pieces over a relatively short period of time. All of these pieces grace my dyeing table and leave their mark.

When preparing to dye, the first thing I do is line my table with plastic wrap and then top it with a sheet of brown kraft paper. Last year was the first year that it occurred to me to frame the beauty of art created from art.

My fiancée, Cara and I found this bone (a cow mandible) during our "quarantravels" back in 2020, a month-long camping trip that we took during quarantine. My mom, rest her soul, was an avid bone hunter and I so enjoyed those moments we had together looking for bones or dissecting the owl pellets that we had found. I am grateful to now have a partner who not only enjoys it too but has an incredible eye for spotting them!

We were driving down an empty road, like most roads were back then, when Cara spotted a bone far off in the distance. You can recognize them because the white of the bone catches the sunlight, making them glow against the sand. I dyed this mandible soon after we returned from our trip and have kept it for the last five years, waiting for the inspiration to turn it into something special.

I’m really proud of this piece. The bone is secured on a section of The Dyeing Table with indigo-dyed leather cord. I’ve attached a .925 sterling silver pigeon on the bottom right as a kind of signature. The back is signed, dated, and marked as 1 of 1.

I've removed the glass from the frame for the photographs to provide a clearer view of the art without reflections, the art will ship with glass. Framed in natural solid oak.

Every year I will release a new series, but there are no guarantees that the size, quantity, or framing style will be at all the same, the only thing that is certain is that they will always be extremely limited and truly one of a kind.

These pieces are a piece of me! Indigo has been a huge part of Pigeon Tree since its first inception almost 10 years ago. Indigo is in my veins, and pumps through my heart. You own my indigo dyed leather pieces, now take a piece of my dyeing table home!
